CIC 1st Graduation
With much pride, Northern Mindanao’s truly 1st culinary school, the Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro, held its 1st Commencement Exercises with the theme: “A Life to Lead, a Dream to Live” last 2 July 2011 at Lourdes College, with 23 student chefs in attendance. It was a very solemn and special occasion to give honor to the graduates and tribute to their parents.

Firstly, a Eucharistic Mass was celebrated with Fr. Julian F. Guinit officiating to give deep thanks to the Almighty for all His blessings and guidance. Afterwhich, the program proper rolled-off with an impressive display of cavalry sabre salute executed by maritime cadets heralding the parade of graduates, chef instructors and school officials. A heart-warming opening speech was delivered by Program Director, Chef Malou Caudal. Appropriately, Dr. Ruth Cabahug, VPAA of M.U.S.T. was invited to keynote speak and appropriately inspired the graduates to live their dreams despite all odds.

A highlight of the affair was the CIC trademark, the Vest Ceremony, a rite only seen in CIC where student chefs don new chef jackets to represent their transition into full-fledged chefs with the assistance of their parents and/or spouses.

Naturally, capping the event was the handing-over of diplomas/certificates to the successful 23 chef graduates; as confirmed by school administrator Ms Ness Abamonga.

For Batch1 awarded Most Outstanding CIC Student was Chef Candice Riconalla; while Academic Excellence medals were given to Chefs Dexter Ebo, Rasiel Mulig & Candice Riconalla; further Best in OJT went to Chefs Milfred Dapiton, Keziah Villalba, Jude Cue; finally Best in Comprehensive Exam was Chef Candice Riconalla.

On the other hand, for Batch2 awarded Most Outstanding CIC Student was Chef Dianna Ravanera; while Academic Excellence medals were given to Chefs Agnes Bacarrisas, Saima Monir, Allen Basco, Maribel Pineda & Dianna Ravanera; further Best in OJT went to Chefs Allen Basco, Saima Monir & Catherine Lachica; finally Best in Comprehensive Exam was Chef Dianna Ravanera.

The rest of the graduating batch are: Chefs Asteria Dumindin, Khristoffer Galope, Erma Groyal, Fritz Matilos, Rick Tidoy, Ailene Uy, Jo Ann Arturo, Hazel Bacarro, Zaira Blanco, Ruffy Llamera and Khatherine Reycites.

The memorable event ended with poignant messages delivered separately by Chef Candice Riconalla directed to the graduates, associating life to acquired knife skills; and Chef Dianna Ravanera directed to the parents, on valuable parenting lessons.

CIC’s very own TV personality, Chef Hasset Go spearheaded the well-attended Baking and Pastry Open House to introduce to all interested Cagayanons the newly-developed Applied Science in Baking and Pastry Arts diploma/certificate program designed to be more affordable yet more comprehensive in scope and substance last July 3. All participants in both the morning and afternoon sessions were treated to “up close and personal” baking demonstrations by the very personable chef.

This open house was actually preceded by a house blessing of CIC’s additional new kitchen laboratories to support the constantly increasing number of students desiring to avail of world-class baking and culinary skills training deeply imbedded with holistic nutrition.
